Digital Camera SizesDigital cameras come in different sizes. The bigger the camera is more features are usually available. It doesn't mean that you need them though as featured on What do You need your digital camera for?. Usually you can sort the cameras into three main size categories:
1. Compact - They're light, small and GREAT! Digital cameras that fit into the pocket of your jeans are usually referred to as compact cameras. Having a compact camera is great as it's very convenient and there are some great compact cameras out there. Drawbacks are usually the small buttons and zoom but you can't expect them to be great from a camera that fits into your pocket. BTW I have a great Canon digital compact camera that I'm taking with me all the time and I've taken some great shots with it.
2. Standard - the most wide spread format and most of the cameras fit into this category. Standards size cameras are the most wide spread cameras around. For someone just starting out there is a great selection at very affordable prices.
3. Big/Professional - cameras with a lot of features and gimmicks, mostly for professional use. Cameras that the advanced/pro photographers use with a wide range of manual features and the possibility to change lenses/zooms, etc. Not for the beginner as he might find it very hard to grasp.
Deciding for a specific size of camera should not be taken lightly. If you're going to buy a high-end camera with all the gimmick now available and after a while start feeling that you don't feel like taking it with you as it bulky then you probably should have decided for a compact camera and would have saved a lot of money.
